A collection of my work throughout the year

Coursework Evaluation

i think my project as a whole came out as i planned and covered each aspect i wanted to achieve. throughout my project I tried to experiment with different work styles and ways of developing ideas to produce a newer more fresher outcome to what i normally produce i also wanted to experiment with newer working ways ones that i was not familiar with so i could broaden my working style . so far i think i have achieved this by doing more pieces in the style of artist and relating it with strong relevance so my final pieces have the artist i have looked at intwined into them. i also spent a very long time in finding the perfect artist for my project, the ones i have chosen to use and make final pieces in the style of them have strong illustration aspects in them but also have quite a lot of photoshop skills demonstrated, allowing me to perfect my illustrator skills as i’m not that good with that program but also having good skills in photoshop allowed me to merge the 2 together to create my final outcomes. i have also developed my composition skills and learnt how to structure a piece more to add depth and not confuse you as you look at it. Throughout my project i have taken very strong images because thats key in making a good piece, i worked on my outcomes from the images i took and i was able to do this because of the quality of the pictures i took. i think as a whole i have worked well and developed myself to create more stronger pieces merging everything i have learnt from experimenting and trial and error i also found using a journal to briefly mark down my ideas very useful for going back to reference a idea or possible outcome muck arounds drawn then later turn them  into final pieces . if i did my project again i would possibly take more photos in different locations featuring a different sign or experiment more with materials so maybe spray paint the sign then take a picture of it but as a whole i feel that i have produced very strong outcomes and that my work has conveyed the desired message i wanted it to

this is my final piece with influences from David Newton and Rob Dobie, The gradient adds depth’s to the piece and the cool blue contrasts with the deep pink and purples , i added the opacity to the bubbles because i wanted it to add depth and centre the image so the illustration became the focal point then the words then sign , if i did it again i would experiment more with a range of colours and possibly a change in textures

This is my personal response to david newton i feel like the colours in the circles contrast the threshold image really well giving the piece much needed depth and a sense of layering i chose to use the same colours as the Artist but for my final piece inspired by the style and piece of David Newton i wish it change it to a cool blue colour rather then a pink because i want it to look more manly and cool rather then pink and girly blue in my mind will also contrast better with the threshold rather then pink

This is a illustration done by David Newton i really like how the circles contrast the colours used and how the fact they are layerd gives the image a sense of depth. I also like how because the way the circles are placed your focal point on the image is right to the centre then you branch out following a flow of circles and colours untill you reach a background, the colours chosen are all cool colours like light pinks, and oranges this could surgest the image is representing all things possitive.

This is some experimentation into Typography i wanted to see how effective it was to make some lettering useing different objects to make letters i chose colouring pencils because there straight and not bendy meaning to make letters that have a bend it would give them a warped look breaking the barrier of the norm i think my pieces was inspired by the whole Richard Long’s idea of working outside of the box and experimenting with something new and discovering wether they would work, however i did not feel like they was strong enough to be able to used in my project.

This is my experimentation for my final piece i started of without a shadow and the text starting at the cigarrete but then i realised people read from left to right so i changed it around, on the next experiment i started to add shadow to the picture giving it depth and i think the cloud background goes well in composistion with the illustrated image, these pieces was heavily influenced by Rob Dobi’s illustrations as i tried to work in the same style as him because the model i chose is a sterotypical chav

Rob Dobi is a Graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design with a BFA in illustration. he does a wide range of mixed media products and pieces and has a very sucessful famous client base, including michael jackson, the rolling stones, blink-182, green day, eminem, paramore, pearl jam and fall out boy all well known around the world, he has a wide range of Tshirt’s for sale and a illustration book demonstrating sterotypes of people from the research he found found when he study’d them over a year,

alot of his work is heavily illustrated and mainly produces outcomes that are heavily influced by computer programs such as Illustrator and Photoshop,

Alot of his illustrations look exacly like what i would class as as steorytype i think thats the main point when looking at his work if it says its a emo, goth or a rocker then the illustration he has produced looks exaclly like what a stereotype of them would look like, he work reminds me of alot of my friends as most of them fit his stereotypes especially my friend zakk who looks just like the emo/goth character Dobi illustrated. his Tshirts often have a hidden message behind them and they are normally in a range of colours , all of the illustrations featured on the Tshirts have been composed perfectly as your are drawn to the centre piece straight away,

Dobi’s work belongs to the younger generation of Illustraters, giving a wide range of a modern day view of the world through his eyes , the time period his work belongs to is 2000, and onwards but most recently his work has become more populrized in the 2010 era , having his Tshirts featured on a vast number of T.v shows and movies,

i wish to study Dobi’s illustration style when practicing my skills in illustrator im going to illustrate my friend zakk as he is the cloest’s stereotype i can find that fits in with Dobi’s work i think the outcome will work well and help me broaden my illustrating skills

Antony Gormley was born in London in 1950. After attending Ampleforth College , Yorkshire, he went on to complete a degree in Archaeology, Anthropology and the History of Art at Trinity College, Camridge , between the years of 1968-71. Following his graduation, Gormley travelled to India and Sri Lanka to study Buddhism for three years. On his return to London, in 1974, he attended Central School of Art and Goldsmith’s College before completing a postgraduate course in sculpture at Slade School of Art between 1977 and 1979.
As Gormley became Celebrated internationally his work became more popularised and  featured in solo and group exhibitions in Europe, Scandinavia, America, Japan and Australia. His sculptures have been acquired by many public and private collections around the world. In 1994 he was awarded the Turner Prize and in 1999 he won the South Bank Prize for Visual Art.
Alot of Gormley’s art often features what appears to be human figure’s expressing an emotion e.g sad or fear most of his sculptures are on a very large scale some of which take up whole city landscapes for the time of theire instalation . Often the material he choses to use are things like metal wire this portrays the image of the piece being fragile although its in reality very sturdy possibly this could be reflecting an emotion trying to futher more the point of the sculpture itself
Gormley’s art work belongs to the sculpture community and is recognized all around the world, I think his work changes what people think about sculptures in the sence of you would expect a fragile looking metal frame sculpture to loose its integrity over time but yet it remains intacked maybe this is him saying that the sculpture world itself is just growing and growing and people need to take more notice to the fact that there not fragile infact there completely stable and sturdy .
my inspired piece i want to use something thats fragile looking to copy the style of Gormley’s work i would like to make a sculpture from playing cards as they are fragile but at the same time if placed correctly will stand firm just like gormleys sculptures, gormleys work as a whole makes me think of useing different materiels throughout my work to expand the boundaries that i normally confined myself inside

Richard Long was born in Bristol in 1945. He studied at the west of england college of art, Bristol (1962-66) and at St martins school of art London (1966-68).
In the year of 1994 Richard made his first work involving landscape, which had developed by 1967 towards using distance, in the form of long walks, and space - the open air, aspects of the landscape with his subtle intervention. The element of time became important as he made sculptures by walking
The 1 hour piece was inspired by a circle walk he took in 1 hour he noted down all the things he could see, smell,or hear during his eperience and made them into a visual type outcome in the shape of a circle. this work is so visually simple that it works perfectly , its not to complicated and theres no colour or texture its just simple black and white , the piece itself is very personal as its a experiece’s he encounterd whilst traverling so certain things would only have happend to him and would have been different if it was done by someone else making the piece have a very surreal personal aspect to it.
I think this piece belongs to the sculpture comunity but also to the Graphics community at the same time even though that Richards background is more focused on sculptures and landscapes i still think this is a very strong representation of the journey anyone can take on a everyday basis .
i like this whole surreal idea of being taken out of my comfort zone and this piece alowed me to do this i think i want to keep this up throughout my project and maybe go down a rout that ive never taken before and explore what i can work with material wise
